From our early beginnings in utero the process of internal respiration creates pathways of connectivity throughout the body that guide our early development of self. These set the baseline for the later external respiration, when we exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide directly with the outer world. Body-Mind Centering® brings new awareness to the practice of breathing and pranayama, moving beyond a formulaic approach, to an expansive embodied experience of respiration in its many forms.
PREBREATHING & INTERNAL RESPIRATION
VIBRATION, CELLULAR BREATHING, SPONGING, PULSATION, EMBRYONIC BREATHING, NAVEL RADIATION
These are the early processes of internal respiration that create the expanding condensing rhythms and circulation of the fluids and life force throughout the cells and tissues of the body.
EXTERNAL RESPIRATION & THE STRUCTURES OF BREATHING
LUNGS, UPPER & LOWER RESPIRATORY, DIAPHRAGMS (CRANIAL, MOUTH, NOSE, VOCAL, SHOULDER, THORACIC, PELVIC) THE HEART & CIRCULATORY SYSTEM, GLANDS OF BREATHING, THE SKULL
These are the structures of external respiration, that support the dynamic interplay of oxygenation and carbondioxination throughout the body, as well the body and external environment. They are dependent on the integration of internal respiration in support of external respiration.
PRANAYAMA, ASANA, MEDITATION
Using our awareness of internal and external respiration we will explore the practices of pranayama, asana, and mediation from an expansive embodied breathing approach. Each weekend will introduce a different aspect of breathing, explorations will draw from embodied anatomy, embryology, neurocellular development, and principles of Body-Mind Centering® and yoga.
