This month is the 50th anniversary of the School for Body-Mind Centering®
We started the school in 1973 with the hopes of it being a vehicle for embodying wholeness of self within a nurturing environment. Looking back now at this 50 year mark, we are grateful that so many people have found Body-Mind Centering® to have significant benefit in their lives and have contributed to its ongoing development.
We began with 3 students in our living room in New York City. Today, the School offers programs and courses in 15 countries and in 8 languages. There are more than 1000 graduates from 33 countries on 6 continents.
Programs are now offered through licensed organizations, directed by Body-Mind Centering® Teachers dedicated to transmitting the depth and breath of this work in engaging and comprehensive trainings.
Body-Mind Centering® is being applied in a wide range of fields including somatic movement education and therapy, somatic psychology, bodywork, yoga, dance, and other movement practices, occupational and physical therapy, speech therapy, and infant, childhood, and teen education.
The Body-Mind Centering® Association (BMCA) was founded in 1985 by BMC® Practitioners, initiated by Ellen Barlow and Sara K. Vogeler. It has grown into a professional organization providing standards and support for professional members as well as being a conduit for communication and dialogue for the community of people interested in Body-Mind Centering®.
We offer our deep, heartfelt appreciation to the Program Directors of the licensed organizations, to the Body-Mind Centering® Association, to the teachers and students who have taught and studied and shared, and to everyone who has helped to create and shape this wonderful global community.
Let us all join hands and together hold a vision of embodiment and community for the next 50 years.
With love,
Bonnie and Len
